ABOUT ARTE GER'AÇÃO
Our educational et cultural association Arte Geração is located in the neighborhood of Uruguai in Salvador.
Our goals are to provide services, assistance et advices to vulnerable families who live in Itapagipana's peninsula. We act for defense et guarantie of their rights provided by law (LOAS nº8742, 07/12/1993).
We are developing different activities like sport, educational support, social actions or food distributions.

For women of the community, we offer, in partnership with SESC-BA, training workshops in crafts aimed at facilitating women's entrepreneurship. These productions of art, crafts, and cultural objects provide them with new job opportunities and better income. It also allows for the development of the skills and knowledge necessary for the full exercise of citizenship.
For children and adolescents, we develop activities related to artistic, sport, and cultural education with capoeira classes, psychopedagogical, and therapeutic support. We also offer socio-educational and inclusive actions aimed at minimizing the problems caused by exclusion that the surrounding community suffers from. These children and adolescents are socially at risk of involvement in drug trafficking and use, delinquency. They suffer from school dropout and a lack of qualifications.
OUR STORY
Arte Ger'Ação is inspired by an activity that is very prevalent in the state of Bahia: capoeira. Its creator is the master of capoeira Marcelo Bezerra Pereira, also known in capoeira circles as Cacique Massaranduba. At 19, capoeira brought him his first trip to France.

In 2003, Cacique Massaranduba (Marcelo) created the event 'Natal Capoeirando' through actions (workshops, training sessions) carried out in different European cities. The aim was to raise funds to buy and then distribute toys at Christmas for homeless children. In the first year, this campaign benefited nearly 1,500 children from the Itapagipe peninsula in Salvador.
Marked by a difficult childhood and a lack of access to opportunities normally guaranteed by the Statute of the Child and Adolescent (ECA in Brazil), Marcelo wanted to make fighting inequalities a priority. His experience in France allowed him to discover that all children benefit from fundamental social rights for their development, guaranteed by the French government.
Starting in 2009, the goal changes, becoming a more ambitious project: to acquire a space to welcome children and their families.
In November 2015, the dream becomes a reality thanks to ongoing actions in Europe and the collaboration of teachers, students, and family members who have embraced the cause of the project.
On February 27, 2018, the Massaranduba Cacique participates in the 2nd edition of the competition, contested by 600 applications, for the title of the most complete capoeirista - man and woman - in the world.
#ORedBullParanauê held selections in the cities of Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo, Salvador and Mundo, for residents abroad, in which Marcelo was selected among the 8 finalists. Today he is in the Top 10 best capoeiristas (see the video below ).
Currently, Marcelo is 43 years old, has been living in Bordeaux, France for 24 years, and teaches the art of capoeira to 250 students between the cities of Bordeaux and Angoulême.He plays a fundamental role as an advisor to the association Arte Ger'Ação. Along with other teachers, students, and mothers from the Grupo Arte Negra Capoeira residing in France and Germany, he supports the work carried out by the board members. In particular, the leadership work done by Silvia (his sister) and Eremita (his mother), who have been at the forefront of the social project since its inception.

TARGET AUDIENCE AND TERRITORY
Children and adolescents, aged 4 to 17 years and 11 months, women and elderly individuals residing in the city of Salvador de Bahia. The institution is located in the neighborhoods of the Itapagipe peninsula. This peninsula covers an area of 697 hectares, and a population of over 170,000 inhabitants lives there, spread across a total of 14 neighborhoods: Uruguai, Ribeira, Bomfim, Monte Serrat, Dendezeiros, Bairro Machado, Alagados, Vila Rui Barbosa, Massaranduba, Baixa do Petróleo, Boa Viagem, Calçada, Mares, and Grenade. In the 1940s, an industrial boom occurred, leading to the establishment of industries in the agricultural and textile sectors, as well as shipyards and sisal reserves.
This industrial cycle has impacted the increase of the low-income population, environmental pollution, inducing the expansion of slums in the region and causing the emergence of the largest stilt neighborhood in the country, known as Alagados. Itapagipe has an important historical and cultural heritage, both material and immaterial, as well as tourist sites, community entities, as well as NGOs, associations, and other collectives working in the fields of education, health, human rights, and economic and community development. However, the Itapagipe peninsula is also today an economically distressed area, without development prospects, with a degraded environment and heavily marked by urban violence, crime, drug use, and racism. It has one of the largest pockets of poverty in Salvador.
